2025 SpaceCraft Workshop Instructors

Empowering Knoxville’s art community through sustainable workshops that support artistic growth and provide financial opportunities for practicing artists.

Say hello to Bryana

Sweet Busy BE Shop is the intersection of cross stitch, embroidery, and fangirling. Whether you're looking for stickers featuring your favorite musicians, or embroidery hoops with movie quotes you can't get out of your head, you've come to the right place! The BE in Sweet Busy BE is the owner's initials (Bryana Ezell), and the overall shop theme is an homage to the novel The Secret Life of Bees, where a character explains that "Above all, send the bees love. Every little thing wants to be loved." We here at Sweet Busy BE love every little thing about you, and we are here to create art for every little thing you love.

How do you see the SpaceCraft supporting you in elevating your artistry?

I've had the honor of seeing Spacecraft transform over and over again for a variety of events and performances since it officially opened back in July, and I am constantly in awe of the amount of creativity contained within these 4 walls. I've also gotten to experience the building processes along the way. I've heard people exchange feedback on their current pieces. I've witnessed curiosity amongst friends as they teach each other new skills. I've shown up when someone was in the middle of filming on multiple occasions. No matter where your creative journey finds you, you're always welcome in our orbit, and that's why I'm delighted to be hosting a workshop (or 2) this year!

Say hello to Diana

Diana Dalton is a filmmaker, writer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Knoxville. Her poetic work has been featured in You're Not Seeing Things, The Pigeon Parade, The Oakland Arts Review, and more. Her films and written works often find themselves concerned with memory spaces, the ephemeral, and the (so-called) mundane.

How do you see the SpaceCraft supporting you in elevating your artistry?

SpaceCraft is a dream container for making mixed media magic. By holding this workshop in a true community space - where crafters of all stripes are invited to experiment but never to compete - I hope that uninhibited creativity can flow.

Say hello to Jaz

Jasmine “Jaz” Parks is the one woman show that is Childlike Creative. She initially created the business and brand as a way of coping with the horrors she experienced while being in grad school in July of 2022. She considers this project her first real push towards being a working artist and entrepreneur in a serious and potentially viable way.

She is very influenced and inspired by children and how they navigate and negotiate life, experimenting and responding to everything. They are candid, honest, bold, and they believe they can do anything and be anything or anyone. they decide to do something, and then they do. She admires their resilience, reliance on intuition, playful experimentation, and simple discovery of what it is like to be a human in the world through questioning and doing.

childlike creative is the manifestation of both her personal ethos as an artist and the name of the business and brand she has created. Her various degrees and exploration of academic disciplines mixed with her broad work and life experiences have resulted in an interesting personal and professional approach to creating art. In her visual, digital, or craft art, she often uses combinations of words, textures, color, and shapes to process and work through concepts, thoughts, feelings, and ideas of her inner world as a way to make sense of them and the world around her. much of her work is inspired by nostalgia and capturing universal human experience through very specific-to-her images, objects, and stories. As a writer and musician, the process of her practice is much more intuitive.

Say hello to Roshani

Roshani (they/she) is a queer artist of color based in Knoxville. Roshani has a love of art and a passion for sharing it with others. This deep relationship to art married with their professional degree in industrial design brings a certain interest to printmaking. The ability to create multiples of the same hand-carved print takes the slow form of art and the fast pace of mass production and brings them together.

How do you see the SpaceCraft supporting you in elevating your artistry?

Spacecraft is an incredible space to share this art and have some fun with it. With the creation of new materials to the reuse and recycling of old materials, we can really make something unique, and something everyone can have their own version of. Spacecraft calls for art and community to go hand-in-hand, and sharing created blocks and found materials to print with each other is a prime opportunity to foster this kind of interaction.

SpaceCraft provides a uniquely creative and welcoming environment, perfectly suited for fostering artistic exploration. Its open and flexible space allows for both structured step-by-step instruction and the more introspective, meditative painting sessions I offer. The atmosphere at Spacecraft encourages community and creative expression, aligning seamlessly with my patience, encouraging teaching style, and a relaxed, joyful environment for me to cultivate in my classes. Its location in Knoxville makes it easily accessible, and its established reputation as a hub for creativity will attract individuals eager to learn and express themselves through all art.

Say hello to Kira

Kira Suerth is a multifaceted artist whose creative journey intertwines her professional life as a systems analyst with her passion for visual expression. Originally exploring the world of photography, Kira's early works delved into themes of psychology, commenting on the intricate nuances of her experiences with mental illness.

In recent years, Kira has transitioned to painting, finding it to be a relaxing outlet for creativity outside of her analytical career. Her current body of work reflects a deep engagement with color, form, and emotion, allowing her to express the complexities of life in a vibrant and dynamic way. Kira's art serves not only as a personal release but also as an invitation for viewers to explore their own interpretations and connections to the themes she presents.

Kira Suerth continues to evolve her practice, blending analytical thought with creative intuition to produce works that resonate on multiple levels.

How do you see the SpaceCraft supporting you in elevating your artistry?

My workshop on creating collages from reused materials using the "viewfinder method" is a perfect fit for Spacecraft for several reasons! First, it aligns with the co-op's commitment to sustainability and creativity, encouraging participants to repurpose materials and reduce waste. This hands-on approach not only fosters artistic expression but also promotes environmental awareness, which is a core value of the Spacecraft community.

Additionally, the "view finder method" offers a unique technique that enhances participants' ability to focus on composition and perspective, making it accessible for artists of all skill levels. This method encourages experimentation and community collaboration, key elements of the co-op's ethos. By providing a space for artists to connect, share ideas, and explore new techniques, this workshop will hopefully add to the already rich, creative environment at Spacecraft!
